For the Brides
Although there are still a few full service bridal shops around, they are becoming less and
less. Many brides are shopping at the large chains like David's Bridal, or buying online.
Shopping for a gown is not the same as shopping for a pair of jeans! There are no
returns, sizing is completely different from, say, the Gap, and if you are buying online you
obviously can't try it on.
Not every body type can wear every style!  Go to a salon and tell them you would like to try
on at least five different silhouettes. Never mind the details, go for the different shapes,
necklines and sleeve options. Here are a few words to use-ballgown, a-line, empire,
mermaid, strapless, sweetheart, corset, cap sleeve.
Also research the name of the fabric you prefer. Don't go in say in saying  "stiff and sorta
shiny" when you mean taffetta. A few fabrics you'll find would be charmeuse, satin,
crepe-backed satin, taffeta, dupioni, organza, organdy, chiffon, tulle, velvet. All these
materials come in a polyester(chemically man-made) or sik(organic) version.  Google
these and go into the bridal salon sounding like you know what you are talking about.
In my opinion...
Big thighs can't wear a straight or mermaid style, potbellies need to stay away from bias
cut gowns. Halters are the hardest to fit and the hardest to wear all day.
If a salon sales associate wants to order a size for you without actually measuring you,
run.
Breast implants will limit your design choices and make it harder to fit properly.
Pushed-up boobs will create a crease at your armpit that is not flattering, and there is not
a darn thing a seamstress can do about it.
If you order extra length on your train for additional drama going down the aisle, please
know that you will also be suffering some additional drama in the fitting room. Bustling an
extra long train can be awkward and expensive.

Very few individuals can wear clothing as purchased, the proper alterations make fashion fit.  With todays
economy, clothing re-styling has become very popular. Have "skinny" pants made out of last years flares, shorten
coat sleeves to show off your long gloves, turn bridesmaids gowns into cocktail dresses. Almost everything old
can be new again! Save money and consume less.
